War- An interesting and tough topic to discuss. It is a
political issue and a moral issue. The basis of war over the history of the world
has been many different reasons. War is necessary when it helps to protect a
nation- on the defense, not necessarily offense. The idea is simple, but
deciding what is protecting a nation is not. In response to the question of morals
and the fact about Mennonites, one of the commandments was Thou Shall Not Kill,
but God supported His people in times of war, even coming down to the battle of
David and Goliath. If someone comes up to a soldier with a lethal weapon (gun,
knife, …) is it “more moral” to let the person kill the soldier? No, the
soldier should defend himself. When the United States was attacked on 9/11, we
had to fight against the terrorists, because they targeted civilians. It was
the lesser of the evils to protect the citizens by killing people overseas. The
war was long and drawn out, which is another issue, but the issue is rooted in,
which is less wrong, not necessarily who is more right?
