Assignment 7 - Benjamin Givens

On September 22nd, 1735, Robert Walpole took residence in 10 Downing Street. This would establish the important building as the seat of the Prime Minister. Walpole's positions as the first defacto Prime Minister of Great Britain contributed to setting up today's world in its current political system. It is difficult to say that Walpole as prime minister was either good or bad. He wasn't certainly no stranger to corruption as can be seen in his exploitation of the South Sea Bubble, but the creation of the prime minister position certainly had positives effects on the world. Churchill was an essential leader during World War I and couldn't have had the position he did without the precedent of Walpole. The presidential position was certainly inspired by that of Prime Minister, and it is generally held as necessary for efficient government. The office and its seat in "Number 10" doesn't inspire extreme emotion but it is certainly an important and interesting development.
