Assignment 7- Emma Tucker

On October 11, 1884 Eleanor Roosevelt was born in New York City. She was the wife of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt who was the 32nd president of the United States. However, she was not your average first lady. In 1933 she became the first wife of a president to hold a press conference in the White House. She was fiercely independent, traveling all over on her own working to improve the lives of people all around the world. For this reason she gained the nickname "First Lady of the World." Eleanor Roosevelt changed what it meant to be the First Lady. She molded it into a much more prominent role, and showed that the First Lady could work to improve the country and the world. While President Roosevelt worked to improve the country through an extremely difficult time, Eleanor Roosevelt also worked hard. She also served as a delegate to the United Nations and helped to draft the Universal Declaration of Human Rights which declared the rights of all people in the world.
