Assignment 7- Elizabeth Salamanca

From September 12th through October 11th of 1890, Lizzie Borden was in jail for allegedly murdering her parents. Although later acquitted, she remains the prime suspect for the murders. The victims, Andrew and Abby Borden, had been hit with multiple hits of a hatchet. This unsolved case has led to speculation for over a hundred years. The story goes like this:

  • Abby Borden, with 19 strikes of a hatchet in her back, was found dead.
  • Andrew Borden, with 11 still-bleeding strikes, was found dead.
  • Lizzie Borden was arrested, and gave strange and contradictory testimonies of what happened.
  • No murder weapon was found, nor any bloody clothing- but Lizzie was seen burning a dress that she claimed was "ruined by fresh paint."
  • The jury acquitted Borden, and she lived the rest of her life ostracized by those who were sure she was guilty.
The mystery of what happened that day is unsolved, and will probably remain that way forever.

Lizzie Borden took an axe
And gave her mother forty whacks.
When she saw what she had done,
She gave her father forty-one.
