Assignment 12 - Dylan Spradlin

Soccer balls are round and tough. They take quite a bit of punishment but still keep raggedly rolling from one experience to another. The view from a soccer ball is fast paced at times, yet at other times the momentum stops and the world is still. During a match, soccer balls must feel quite abused but also jubilantly instrumental. No matter how hard they are struck or how cleanly and precisely a cleat is put on it, the ball’s response can be unpredictable. It is almost as if the will of the ball can be felt at times when it ends up in a very different place than was intended. But sometimes, when the ball is in a harmony with the players, it pings and rushes purposefully to hit its target location seemingly without effort. Soccer matches are probably the most exciting times in the life of a soccer ball. But, seemingly useless when the ball is sitting on the turf waiting to enter a practice or a game, tucked tightly into a pungent soccer bag, or sitting in the middle of a basement floor waiting to be randomly kicked by the kid in the cleats who is knee deep in snapchats. The life of a soccer ball is full of expectation and endless possibility.
