Assignment 4 - Maddie Klumb

Image result for concentration camp
This picture, and pictures like it, were released after WWII ended and the concentration camps were liberated. The world was shocked by the cruelty and horror these people endured at the hands of Nazi Germany. Until these pictures were taken and released, much of the world was unaware of what took place in these camps, and the mass genocide being committed by Hitler. Pictures like these make you think about how lucky you are in your life. None of us faces hardships this extreme. America was, however, also extremely discriminatory toward specific groups of people. We, as a country, oppressed not only African Americans through slavery, but also Asian Americans after Pearl Harbor, and again Muslim Americans after 9/11. This makes you think of how we are quick to blame others for their flaws and misdeeds, but often fail to recognize our own. I sincerely hope that we are able to learn from the past and keep things like all of these events from happening in the future.
