Assignment 4- Elizabeth Salamanca

Who didn't dream of somehow becoming an astronaut as a little kid? Before this photograph was seen live on television in 1969, that may have very well seemed impossible to the citizens of the world. Traveling outside of the atmosphere had been done before, but never to the extent of a physical brush with something so pertinent to our lives. Seeing a person travel all the way to the moon shocked all nations, proving that the very unlikely (or even impossible) could become possible. This event inspired children and adults alike. In addition, this event was a culmination of the rivalry between the Soviet Union and the United States. Achieving contact with the moon before any Russians did, the American people felt incredible pride in their country and its achievements. This pride would result in more space exploration, more funding for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), and more knowledge about the world around us.
