Assignment 3-Elizabeth Ueland

The idea of good and evil is tangible at best, but can also be defined in fundamentals that are different for everyone.  Religions across the globe have different interpretations of good and evil, as do people. Hitler believed that it was a good idea to exterminate the Jews and Cortez believed that it was acceptable to enslave thousands of Native Americans. Good and bad persist within our world but develop overtime. During Cortez' time everyone was exploring and taking over other lands and peoples so he thought it was okay for him to do so as well.

The definition of good in Merriam-Webster dictionary is "correct or proper". This idea is only applicable if people set guidelines for what is good or bad. People don't set clear premises for good and evil because everyone perceives things differently and has their own perspective, but for some it all goes back to fundamentals. Ethics and natural law show that good and bad go down to morals and everything can be stripped down to moral values and behavior. The overall concept reflects personal morals and the laws of nature.
