Assignment 3- Elizabeth Salamanca

I think that good and evil are a matter of perspective. Generally, a murder is seen as an act of evil, but what if the murderer acted in self defense? Could anyone say that he or she did something wrong? Or could anyone say that his or her actions were totally just? Even the acts deemed most evil always have more grey than they have black or white. For example, were the young Germans in the Hitler Youth program evil because they followed orders and supported Hitler? If they had no knowledge of the inhumane things being done under their leader, would they still follow him? There is no way to know for sure, and so there is no way to judge their goodness. I believe that the best way to decide the true malice of a person is through their integrity- what they do when no one is watching. Of course, that begs the question: would anyone do anything selflessly, if no one would ever know? Or do people only act selflessly to gain recognition, and does that make the selfless act selfish?
