After taking numerous tests over the course of my junior year, I can definitely say that AP Language and Composition was one of the ones that I felt most prepared for. Probably due to the fact that it was less content heavy than say AP US history, but many of the activities in class helped thoroughly prepare me for the AP exam.
One thing that I felt was especially effective was the group project second semester where we had to either defend or refute the position in the prompt. This helped me to brainstorm ideas and go through the process to outline what should be in our essays. Also reviewing the essay rubrics was helpful to compare our own writing and be able to fix errors before tackling the test.
Another thing I felt was helpful, yet abhorred, was socratic seminars. Although, I feel like some seminars were rushed and fit into one class, they were beneficial to analyze prompts similar to what we do on the AP exam. The structure was sometimes disorganized, however they were useful to show the importance of analyzing writing.
