Assignment 25 - Haley Drake
Being a nervous wreck has taught me a multitude of ways to deal with stress. Personally, when I'm overwhelmed by school or whatever's happening in my life, there are two categories of stress-relief techniques that I typically resort to. When stress is resulting from an overwhelming anxiety relating to a specific thing that I have to do - like an upcoming presentation or test - I try to distract myself by constantly working on something unrelated to the thing I'm stressed about. Usually this means practicing music, creating something (writing, doodling, crocheting, cooking, etc.) or even cleaning or rearranging things. On the other hand, when stress is resulting from lack of motivation, I have to do my best to relax and get out of my own head. At this point I normally make some tea, sit in bed, and read a book. If it's nice outside I might even go for a walk and spend time in nature. Any of these activities invariably makes me feel better!
