Assignment 23- Elizabeth Salamanca

Playlist of Songs to Convince People That You Are More Cultured Than You Really Are

1) Lux Arumque - Eric Whitacre
This song is a choir piece, originally composed by Eric Whitacre, that has since been transposed into both orchestral scores and band scores. This song is sure to be loved by literally everyone because it's' just so beautiful. But, more importantly, it will truly impress whoever you listen to it with because it is not terribly obscure, but not the "top 40 trash" that people talk about.

2) Misty- Ella Fitzgerald
This song is actually my parent's "song," which pretty much makes it uncool. But if you ignore that, then I love this song. Her voice is infamous and gorgeous. The way she sings the lyrics is smooth and always puts me in a good mood.

3) Like A Prayer- Madonna
This song is classic 1989 (and if you use that line and someone mentions Taylor Swift, make sure to sigh loudly and whine about what happens to culture.) The music video was actually condemned by the Pope himself for featuring symbols such as burning crosses, and truly was a trailblazer in terms of pop music. Which is weird, because the song itself isn't that special honestly.

4) About A Girl- Nirvana
To add some rock to the list, no one should overlook Nirvana. You can't play the most famous song, but the second or third most famous is probably ok. People would gain some respect for you through your wide range of songs, or they will think you are trying too hard.

5) Memory - Cats
Any self-respecting person knows at least a LITTLE bit about showtunes, but not too much. If you know too much then it's weird. This song is not too obscure, but it's also not Hamilton, so it's perfect.
